VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES IN SEOUL FOR NOVEMBER

Yongsan Center for the Disabled (November 14th, 2:00pm ~ 4:30pm)
This activity involves helping our friends at the center with a simple craft making exercise. The items they make are then sold to area stores and institutions, so not only is this a therapeutic exercise, but it is also a way for them to make money.

Yongsan Senior Welfare Center (November 17th, 1:00pm ~ 2:00pm)
Spend time with halmeonis and harabeojis (Korean grandmas and grandpas) by having an English conversation with them as a part of their English class. You do not need to be a native English speaker to join this activity, and it is a great chance for cultural exchange as well.

Young Nak Aenea’s Home (November 20th, 2:00pm ~ 4:00pmYoung Nak Aena’s Home houses 40 cerebral palsied children above the age of 4. We will help prepare afternoon snacks and assist them to eat. Also we will spend some time talking, singing to them, and wheeling them around.Reminders: Volunteers that have flu, hepatitis or any contagious diseases are requested not to join this program.

If you wish to join any of the activities listed above, please send in your confirmation to:

BEAUTY SHOP - SEOUL

THERE  IS  A LOT OF FOCUS ON EYES IN KOREA WHICH IS UNNECESSARY BUT STILL CLOSE TO HEART OF THE NATIVE WOMEN!

ISLAMIC BOOKS: A STORE IN ITAEWON

We have a store where they sell books on Islam but a few other things such as  scarfs,  praying mats and rosemarry etc. Unfortunately this store is over priced. I needed a Quran and the price was 30$  plus for a pocket size - small one!

I went to the mosque and asked the imam and he gave me one - for free!

I think that such stores  should provide some support and help to those who need it rather than make profits out of this! !

IS IT ABBU ( DAD) OR ABU AS COKE SAYS

Coke or Coca-Cola has come up with the idea of advertising coke by putting names of family members or people close to your heart in local languages.
In Pakistan, where Urdu is the national language - MOST but not all words have been borrowed from Urdu.
One such word is abbu which means father and coke has spelled it as ' ABU' - this romanization of the word dad or father is  absolutely WRONG. It should be ABBU and not abu.
In negligence they are teaching kids all sort of wrong spellings even if its the romanization.
