An Apartment to Share near Korea Univeristy from August 24th.
Jia is looking for flat mates and she posted about it below!
| Rooms: | 3-5 |
| Address: | 서울시 성북구 하월곡동 90-723번 (Seongbok-gu, Seoul) |
| Features: | Fully furnished, Service charges included, Parking, Garden, Lift / Disabled access, Security service, Balcony / Terrasse, Cellar |
I'm Jia. I’ve been living in Berlin for a year and will be back in Seoul this August to finish my degree in Korea University and I’m looking for some nice people to share my flat with.
In the northern part of Seoul, I have a lovely flat with 3 rooms, two bathrooms and a big kitchen and a living room. The flat is on the 11th floor. There are big supermarkets such as E-mart (2min walk) and there are restaurants near by. You can go anywhere in Seoul with the subway and bus. The subway is 5 minute walk from the flat and the bus station is right in front of the flat. Korea university is within 10 minutes by bus.
I have a big TV that you can watch any kind of movie you want, ( there are hundreds of free movies you can search and choose on the TV). And there are two air conditioners in the flat. I'm living with a small poodle and a cat. They are very friendly to people and give a warm atmosphere among the house.
Brief introduction of the owner Jia:
I'm 23 years old university student. I speak fluent English, Korean, and some German. I’m studying to become an ethologist and a researcher to study animal behaviour in Africa.
I love animals, and spending time outdoors. I have rescued dogs and cats, as well as guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, and other pets. I horse ride whenever I can. I adore travelling, and it has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I would love to experience places I have never been before, and experience other cultures. I have traveled extensively in Europe and North America. I am positive minded, friendly, and enthusiastic. I like to laugh and enjoy good times with friends and family. I’ve been living in a shared flat since I was 16 with more than 6 people sometimes, and I had a great time with them. so I'm familiar with living with lots of people. I really enjoyed the company as well as having my own privacy and respecting the others. I am constantly looking to improve myself, and happily accept constructive criticism.
I’m looking for two people to share the flat with. I would prefer people with similar age (between 23 to 28)
If you are interested and have any questions, please send me a message. I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Jia

Oakwood Seoul - Accommodation in Seoul
Oakwood - What's that?
Well, the official name is: Oakwood Premier Coex Center located at a short walk from Samsung Station and Bong Eun Sa Buddhist temple in Gangnam, Seoul. They are luxury serviced apartment that boasts the experience of a 5-star hotel accommodation (according to their website). Actually, I think that they are better than the 5-star accommodations because Oakwood provides an ambiance of a home away from home than what you'd expect in a hotel room and that in itself is very comforting. In addition, this place is connected to COEX Mall through a basement and that is a definite plus point, it is just 2 subway stops away from Gangnam Station. Location of Oakwood is one of the advantages of staying there even for someone who is in Seoul for the very first time.

| 110V and 220 V sockets/switchboards are side by side - it's wonderful for someone who has a mismatch of gadgets |
When we were invited by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) and BUZZ KOREA - we got to stay there alongside Grand Hilton in Seoul. Oakwood was way better than Grand Hilton in service and accessibility and the room was very spacious compare to Hilton. Not just that, they have a complete kitchen which is also very helpful and an excellent bathroom with steam sauna facility. It is huge for a single person but is ideal for a family or a couple.
I loved this idea that they have a 110V and 220V sockets. Fully equipped kitchen with home appliances and crockery for 4 people, pots, pans simply everything, they even have a washer/dryer in the room that came with a bottle of detergent. By the way, the various choices in terms of rooms that they offer include: studio, one bedroom, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom choices and a penthouse - click here. The rooms are exactly what you see in pictures, actually better and extremely comfortable. They have everything you'd need. The bathroom with steam sauna facility was outstanding.
A fellow blogger from Japan, Naoko in her blog titled - Burura, has done a wonderful post on reviewing Oakwood so check out the details and great pictures on her blog. If you know Japanese then its even better, you can read through it. I will never be able to post as much pictures as Naoko covering both the major and minor details however, these are a couple of photos I took of the room and the bird's eye view of Gangnam, Samsung dong and Jamsil from the room and the corridor's window.
Some of the images are below..

Oakwood has a record number of families from the Middle East who have chosen to live there instead of the other choices that they had. In a matter of few days, I met about 9 families who are very happy that they chose Oakwood and even though they have kids - things are much better than they'd expected. This place is one of the biggest hub of the Arab community in Seoul.

Starting rates for a studio with breakfast would cost 500USD per night but one can get a big discount if your stay is for a couple of days or on long term basis. So call them and get details.

Most important of all, pets are allowed in Oakwood and that's one of the reasons to choose this place however, for the size and number of pets, call them first.

Once I came out of the Oakwood Residence to catch a bus to head home - the same building (in photos above) looked like this (from below) from the main road :
and like this...
I enjoyed the view from the windows at Oakwood and had a panoramic view of Seoul without going out. One can see even across the Han river, a subway train crossing over the bridge on Han and neighborhoods such as Oksu and Hannam could be clearly seen along the Gangbyeong Highway.

Accommodation in Korea: Benikea (Discount Hotels)
Accommodation is a big problem outside Seoul in partcular and all over Korea in general.
To address this issue of lack of quality, affordable- priced hotel rooms, particularly outside Seoul, the Korea International Tourism Organization (KNTO) has launched “Benikea,” standing for “Best Night in Korea.” This new association of hotels brings quality accommodations with franchise level consistency to budget conscious travelers.
The number of foreign tourists in Korea is soaring
as Korean movies and singing groups attract
fans from Japan and especially China. In 2011,
there were 9.79 million inbound visitors compared
to 6.45 million in 2007.
Recognizing the demand and business opportunity,
foreign hotel operators moved in. US hotel
chain Best Western opened Best Western
New Seoul in 2001 and subsequently expanded to nine hotels with a total of 1,878 rooms. Ibis,
from Europe, opened Ibis Ambassador Seoul in
2003, added more hotels in the capital, and expanded
to Suwon and Busan. Toyoko Inn operates
six hotels with 1,775 rooms, four in Busan
and one each in Seoul and Daejeon. It plans to
expand to 60 hotels in Korea in 10 years.
After the Ibis Ambassador Myeongdong (three
stars) opened in 2006, the impact of foreign hotel
chains in the mid-tier market became highly
visible. After three years, the hotel, located in
the heart of a major shopping district, had a 96 percent occupancy rate. Moreover, its revenue
per available room (RevPAR) was ₩110,000,
much higher than local three star hotels
(₩66,000). By then, Korean tourism officials
were ready to become directly involved in the
hotel industry.
The Korea Tourism Organization does not operate
the hotels per se. Rather, it provides support
services and consulting to help hotels
achieve and maintain KTO standards of excellence.
Getting under the Benikea umbrella
is
difficult. Even a high-class hotel has to go
through a rigorous checklist to be included. Hotels under the Benikea umbrella are found in
all parts of Korea, including Gyeonggi Province,
Gangwon Province, Incheon, Daegu, Jeju,
and Seoul, making themselves easily accessible
to tourists. Two-thirds of the hotels are outside
of Seoul, which helps promote tourism in those
areas.
To encourage reservations on the Benikea website,
Benikea frequently offers special online
deals to Korean and foreign individuals.
It is a good choice if you are planning to stay in a hotel during a trip to Korea. Price are very economical than usual. Services are good. Consider looking at the BENIKEA website HERE. You can reach them 24 hours by calling at : 82-2-1330 . It is very easy to follow and enjoy your trip to Seoul.
